Reading official fuel price information in Western Australia

How Western Australia's FuelWatch service works, what the data shows, and how to use official price information to plan fuel spending in your budget.

What FuelWatch is

Western Australia's FuelWatch is an official government service that publishes reported retail fuel prices. It helps motorists compare prices across retailers and understand price cycles in the Perth metropolitan area.

What the data shows

FuelWatch reports prices by fuel type (unleaded, premium, diesel, LPG) and by suburb or retailer. Prices are published ahead of the next day's trading, which lets motorists plan when and where to fill up.

How to use it for budgeting

  • Track the prices near your regular routes rather than chasing the single cheapest outlet.
  • Note the local price cycle so you can fill up on cheaper days where practical.
  • Add an estimated weekly or fortnightly fuel amount to your payday plan, and adjust it when prices shift noticeably.

A note on forecasts

We do not publish fuel price forecasts. Where an official or reliable forecast is unavailable, use reported prices and historical cycle patterns instead. Don't treat past averages as predictions of future prices.
